Senior Backend Product Engineer (Elixir)

Location: Remote or hybrid across Amsterdam, the Cologne area, or Poland. Work from anywhere is available for up to 4 weeks per year.

Salary: €69,000–€85,000 per year, based on the Netherlands salary range; ranges may vary by employment location.

What you will do

• Build AI-powered features into mature products used by real customers.
• Develop primarily backend solutions while contributing to frontend work when needed.
• Own features end to end, including shaping, implementation, testing, delivery, and evaluation.
• Improve platform scalability, reliability, maintainability, and quality.
• Collaborate with backend and frontend engineers, design, QA, and DevOps.
• Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, architecture, pair programming, and mentoring.

Requirements

• Commercial experience with Elixir, or strong backend experience in Ruby on Rails, Python, Java, or PHP with motivation to learn Elixir.
• Experience with TypeScript and Mastra, or strong willingness to learn them.
• Senior-level engineering judgment and experience shipping production features.
• Strong product thinking, including evaluating trade-offs, prototyping, and using data to guide decisions.
• Fluent English required.
• Remote or hybrid work must be based in the Netherlands, Germany, or Poland, subject to the applicable employment location.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building with AI or LLMs.
• Polish language skills.
