Senior Systems Engineer (Production Support) - II (AWS/Azure)

Location: 100% remote within the United States; candidates from California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington will not be considered. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: $85,389–$116,975 per year

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day operational support for complex cloud-based production systems.
• Detect, isolate, document, report, and resolve system outages, including collecting diagnostics, restoring services, and developing workarounds.
• Administer computing infrastructure, user access, permissions, monitoring, system assets, and maintenance activities.
• Respond to hardware and software issues, communicate status to users and senior management, and coordinate escalations.
• Implement automation and continuous improvement across IT systems and procedures.
• Maintain documentation, provide training, and ensure compliance with Veterans Affairs standards and security policies.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Public Trust (MBI) security clearance are required.
• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering or related production environments, including 3+ years with SQL querying and monitoring.
• Experience with AWS or Azure services, including S3, Step Functions, Batch Jobs, and CloudWatch.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows administration skills, including user management, permissions, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell; experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack, infrastructure as code, Git, and CI/CD tools.
• Knowledge of networking, VPNs, firewalls, databases, backup and recovery, security controls, audits, and compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience with EDI X.12 medical claims, including 837, 834, and 277 transactions.
• Advanced certifications such as RHCE, MCSE, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
