BESS Engineering Expert (Battery Energy Storage Systems)

Location: Hybrid work from hirify.global's headquarters in Rotterdam, with additional work from home, partner locations, and project sites across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany depending on the project phase.

Gross annual salary: €81,000–€114,000, including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance.

What you will do

• Define technical concepts, requirements, and engineering deliverables for utility-scale BESS projects.
• Translate BESS functionality into electrical, civil, controls, fire-safety, and operational requirements.
• Review technical solutions, supplier proposals, designs, specifications, and contract documentation.
• Manage technical interfaces between the BESS, grid connection, control systems, and other project disciplines.
• Support construction, commissioning, performance testing, and technical acceptance.
• Advise project and operational teams on performance, reporting, warranties, system limitations, and improvement opportunities.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
• At least three years of relevant experience with utility-scale BESS, power systems, or complex energy infrastructure.
• Experience in an engineering, consultancy, supplier, contractor, or project delivery environment.
• Knowledge of BESS functionality, performance, safety requirements, and technical interfaces.
• Ability to review specifications, designs, supplier documentation, and technical proposals.
• Professional proficiency in English is required. Dutch is an advantage or may be learned on the job.

Nice to have

• Experience with MV or HV systems, grid compliance, SCADA, controls, fire safety, commissioning, or BESS asset operations.
• Experience coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines.
