Senior Software Engineer (Cards)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; onsite work is indicated. The in-office policy generally requires four days per week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Base salary: $164,000–$227,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive technical design and architectural decisions while mentoring engineers and coordinating cross-functional work.
• Lead and contribute to multiple projects across the Cards organization.
• Build and maintain robust, low-latency APIs and backend services for Trust and Safety platforms.
• Develop deep expertise in platform architecture and provide technical solutions for maturing systems.
• Partner with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to deliver features that improve member protection and experience.
• Improve reliability and performance through system architecture, observability, automation, experimentation, policy lifecycle improvements, and ML integration.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production software development experience at scale.
• Experience serving as a technical lead on a team and complex projects, including architectural decisions and execution coordination.
• Proficiency with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks.
• Experience with transactional databases and caching systems.
• Deep understanding of architectural patterns for large-scale web applications.
• Commitment to mentoring engineers and writing maintainable, well-tested code; participation in an on-call rotation is required.
