Lead Software Engineer (Backend APIs)

Location: Remote, U.S. based; may require 5% travel.

Target pay range: $160,000–$190,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the technical architecture of core Platform Services APIs and interoperability solutions.
• Lead complex initiatives from proposal through delivery, including FHIR-based interoperability and authentication frameworks such as SAML, SCIM, OAuth, and SMART.
• Set engineering standards, review designs and code, and maintain quality across new and legacy codebases.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, technical coaching, and design trade-off discussions.
• Partner with the Senior Engineering Manager to build the technical roadmap and identify risks.
• Represent Platform Services in cross-team technical discussions and contribute production code to high-leverage or high-risk areas.

Requirements

• 7–8+ years of relevant software engineering experience with increasing technical scope and ownership.
• Experience designing and delivering complex, large-scale, or cross-team technical initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of distributed backend systems, APIs, computer science fundamentals, and web services.
• Strong mentoring experience and the ability to influence technical direction without formal management authority.
• Experience with cloud-based SaaS development and CI/CD practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering field; equivalent practical experience is accepted.

Nice to have

• Experience with OAuth, SAML, Ruby or Ruby on Rails, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, New Relic, or DataDog.
• Experience with Agile teams, especially remote teams.
• Experience with healthcare or social-care technologies such as FHIR.
