Associate Director, Engineering (AI/TypeScript)

What you will do

• Lead frontend and backend engineers, coordinate delivery, balance workloads, and manage release commitments.
• Own service architecture, including microservice boundaries, event-driven design, domain-driven design, and API contracts.
• Write, review, and optimize production code in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with coding accounting for approximately 70% of the role.
• Define standards for AI-assisted coding and code review, ensuring the correctness, security, maintainability, and quality of AI-generated code.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, debug production incidents, and drive root-cause analysis and prevention.
• Maintain CI/CD and DevOps practices, system monitoring, security automation, and engineering process improvements while collaborating with Product, Design, and Business teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance applications.
• Expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, React, and Next.js, with strong full-stack web application and reusable component experience.
• Experience designing high-load distributed systems, microservices, GraphQL APIs, event-driven architectures, and domain-driven systems.
• Hands-on production experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, including generating, reviewing, and correcting AI-written code.
• Experience with SQL, MongoDB, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platforms, web security, authentication, testing, and observability.
• Strong English communication and presentation skills, with the role based in Hong Kong on a hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with RAG, MCP, and evaluation systems.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, or C#, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and scalable caching or storage solutions.
• Knowledge of SEO optimization and web performance metrics.
