Lead Engineer (AI)

Location: Spain; fully remote, with optional access to offices in Las Palmas, Tenerife, and Madrid.

AI firm building production AI systems for regulated industries and developing AI-native products for clients across the US, Latam, Europe, and the GCC.

What you will do

• Lead an engineering pod responsible for an entire domain from end to end.
• Keep leadership informed and translate team progress into clear project-level updates.
• Prioritize and delegate work, provide direct feedback, and establish best practices.
• Define engineering standards around Java/OOP, Domain-Driven Design, REST APIs, and Git.
• Challenge unclear tickets, sequence competing requests, and improve engineering practices beyond the pod.

Requirements

• Previous experience leading engineering teams and leading people.
• Ability to act as the technical authority and set engineering standards.
• Fluent English for communication with leadership and engineering teams.
• Strong practical experience with Java/OOP, Domain-Driven Design, REST APIs, and Git.
• Ability to organize work amid ambiguity and competing priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with large regulated-industry clients in banking, insurance, or healthcare.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot or Claude Code.
• Experience mentoring or growing engineers.
