Lead Java Software Engineer

Location: Poland; remote or office work

Company

Software engineering work on the European Commission’s eGrants ecosystem, supporting calls, proposals, grants, participants, and audit processes.

What you will do

• Design and develop backend applications and business logic using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JEE, EJB, WebLogic, and Kafka.
• Build and secure REST APIs, web services, integrations, and frontend-to-backend connections.
• Design relational and NoSQL data solutions and ensure application scalability, performance, logging, monitoring, and security.
• Develop unit and integration tests and integrate testing and code-quality controls into CI/CD pipelines.
• Configure cloud services, storage, serverless functionality, and managed Kubernetes.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, support onboarding, and collaborate with QA and delivery stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong backend development experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
• Hands-on experience with WebLogic, Kafka, JEE, EJB, REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger, and web services.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL, including complex SQL and database design; knowledge of MongoDB, CouchDB, or Cosmos DB.
• Experience with Maven, GitLab, Bamboo, Jenkins, Nexus, Jira, Git, Bitbucket, wikis, Dynatrace or similar APM tools.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services, serverless and storage solutions, SOA, microservices, distributed systems, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, code analysis and security tools, plus strong analytical, communication, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of public grants or audit management.
• Experience with Camunda or Activiti.
• Knowledge of European open-source or reusable components, system analysis, or project management.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools such as Amazon Q or Kiro.
