Automation Service Engineer (Biotech)

Location: Onsite at the Piscataway, New Jersey, United States site

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Provide daily technical support for laboratory automation platforms at the Piscataway Gene R&D site.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and recover equipment involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensor, robotic, communication, and basic software systems.
• Support Tecan, Hamilton, and other laboratory automation equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis, track recurring failures, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain service records, build the automation knowledge base, and support installations, commissioning, upgrades, and improvement projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in equipment support, automation, maintenance, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Systematic troubleshooting, root cause analysis, technical documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite at the Piscataway, New Jersey location.

Nice to have

• Experience with laboratory automation or automated life-science equipment, especially Tecan or Hamilton platforms.
• Experience with liquid handlers, robotic arms, plate handlers, stackers, barcode scanners, sensors, motors, or pneumatics.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, serial communication, automation software, programming, or scripting.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, or regulated manufacturing.
