Operator Control (Power Generation)

Location: On-site in Redlands, California, United States, with up to 50% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory. The role may require extended assignments at other generation locations, and relocation may apply.

What you will do

• Control and direct the loading of electrical generators and battery energy storage systems based on dispatch instructions.
• Monitor station equipment through digital control systems, inspections, shift reports, and logbook entries.
• Remotely operate plant equipment while directing local Operator Mechanics.
• Identify abnormal plant conditions, determine causes and corrective actions, and communicate plant status to operations control centers and leadership.
• Record operating data, maintain detailed logs and reports, perform minor maintenance and housekeeping, and train other operators.
• Issue and approve work authorizations, clearances, permissions, and approvals for work on plant equipment.

Requirements

• At least two years of recent Control Room Operator experience at a commercial power plant.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating day and night shifts in a 24/7 department, using the Dupont Shift Schedule.
• Pass the EEI POSS and Control Operator assessments when required.
• Pass a NERC/CIP Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation before hiring and complete required training before receiving unescorted site access.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of combined-cycle and simple-cycle thermal power plants.
• Knowledge of commercial battery energy storage systems.
• Experience with turbine generators, boilers, heat recovery steam generators, auxiliaries, instrumentation, automatic controls, piping, protection systems, and switchgear.
• Experience with Emerson Ovation, GE Mark 6e, Wonderware, RS Logix, programmable logic controllers, and other digital control systems.
• Experience with power plant chemistry and water treatment, plus proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
