Mechanical Engineer (Vehicle Engineering), Senior or Staff-Level (Space Rovers)

Location: Hawthorne, California; onsite

Salary: $130,000–$219,000 per year

Develops lunar rovers, power systems, and data networks for sustained operations and future planetary surface exploration.

What you will do

• Design mechanical systems including structures, mechanisms, electro-mechanical systems, and thermal hardware at architectural and detailed levels.
• Own hardware products from requirements definition through operational mission success and beyond.
• Create models, drawings, analysis packages, test plans, test reports, certification documentation, and operations plans.
• Build tools and infrastructure that improve engineering and company efficiency.
• Collaborate with leadership and design counterparts to define design, analysis, and test best practices.
• Mentor and develop other engineers, contractors, and interns.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field.
• At least 4 years of design experience at a space company.
• Experience with CAD modeling and analytical tools such as FEA and MATLAB.
• Experience developing hardware according to space industry design standards and best practices.
• Experience with NASA technical standards, integrated systems and testing, structural and thermal analysis, or kinematics and dynamics is valuable.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a STEM field.
• Experience with deployable systems, electro-mechanical systems, thermal hardware, power electronics, motor control, fluids, or loads and dynamics.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers, contractors, and interns.
