Mechanical Engineer (Spacecraft)

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical design of lunar rover hardware, lander interfaces, spacecraft structures, mechanisms, and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment.
• Create 3D models, engineering drawings, build-to-print documentation, and component design specifications.
• Develop conceptual and detailed designs, including material and component trade studies, prototyping, manufacturing considerations, and design validation.
• Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to resolve technical issues and ensure hardware conformity.
• Identify technical risks, define mitigation plans, and support inspections, assembly, integration, and testing activities.
• Travel occasionally to other offices and supplier locations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent field.
• 5–10+ years of professional experience in mechanical design for aerospace, aviation, or spaceflight applications.
• Extensive experience with CAD software and engineering drawing production.
• Advanced knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, tolerance stack-up analysis, and RSS methods.
• Strong understanding of mechanical structures, assemblies, mechanisms, material selection, fabrication processes, and coatings for spaceflight hardware.
• Ability to independently drive mechanical design activities, resolve technical issues, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Experience with industrial development projects in the space industry and with metallic or composite structures.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturing, product BOM management, and structural and thermal implications of mechanical design.
• Experience taking hardware through the complete lifecycle from concept to flight.
• Practical knowledge of relevant ECSS standards.
