Senior Mechanical Engineer - Powertrain Engineering (Marine)

Location: Full-time, on-site role in Torrance, California, at the Los Angeles headquarters. Occasional travel of approximately 15% is required for testing, validation, suppliers, and field operations.

Base salary: $150,000–$180,000 annually, plus equity grants and semi-annual bonuses.

What you will do

• Own the design and integration of complex electromechanical systems from concept and requirements through production.
• Define requirements and specifications, create CAD designs, build prototypes, and perform FEA, numerical modeling, and hand calculations.
• Work across mechanical, electrical, thermal, and manufacturing disciplines with attention to manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and real-world operating conditions.
• Build, test, debug, troubleshoot, and iterate on hardware in prototype and production environments.
• Collaborate with component suppliers, partner shipyards, manufacturing teams, and vessel operators.
• Support sea trials and field validation to verify performance and resolve operational issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience owning complete mechanical or electromechanical systems through design and production.
• Functional knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage batteries and power electronics.
• Strong structural and thermal engineering fundamentals and experience with CAD tools such as NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks.
• Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, or FEA packages, as well as design-for-manufacturability principles.
• Comfort working hands-on in the field, including on boats and at shipyards, with strong communication, prioritization, and decision-making skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with commercial vessels, marine systems, Coast Guard, or ABS regulations.
• Fluid system design experience, including pump sizing, heat exchanger sizing, and hose or pipe routing.
• Advanced high-voltage battery integration experience.
• Experience with sheet metal, CNC machining, composites, shop tools, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Enthusiasm for boating, marine systems, and the water.
