TL;DR

Manager, Motor Mechanical (Aerospace): Leading the mechanical design of high-performance electric motors for eVTOL aircraft with an accent on stator/rotor assemblies and structural integrity. Focus on translating electromagnetic theory into robust hardware, overseeing CAD/GD&T specifications, and managing the full hardware development cycle from concept to production.

Salary: $175,000 - $225,000

What you will do

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of mechanical design engineers, overseeing professional development and project priorities.
  • Direct the detailed mechanical design of stator and rotor assemblies, ensuring weight and thermal performance requirements are met.
  • Lead design reviews and provide final sign-off on CAD models, technical drawings, and advanced GD&T.
  • Oversee FEA strategies and development testing to validate strength, dynamic, and fatigue requirements.
  • Partner with electromagnetic, thermal, and manufacturing teams to implement DFM and ensure components meet aviation standards.
  • Triage and resolve critical technical issues discovered during design, manufacturing, and testing cycles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in electric machine mechanical design with 2+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (NX preferred) and 2D drawing creation.
  • Deep understanding of electric motor construction, including lamination stacks, winding, and magnet retention.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as laser welding, potting, and injection molding.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US; no visa sponsorship is available.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace development and certification experience (FAA/EASA).
  • Experience with high-speed rotor dynamics and balancing.
  • Proficiency with FEA software packages like ANSYS or NASTRAN.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, MS Project, or Smartsheet.
