Manager, Motor Mechanical (Aerospace)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; domestic travel may be required.

Base salary: $175,000–$225,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical design engineers.
• Manage priorities, resources, schedules, and deliverables for electric motor development programs.
• Direct the mechanical design of stator and rotor assemblies, including high-speed rotors and high-voltage insulation systems.
• Review and approve CAD models, technical drawings, GD&T, and engineering specifications.
• Guide FEA strategies, development testing, thermal validation, durability assessment, and root cause analysis.
• Coordinate with electromagnetic, thermal, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and electric propulsion teams to deliver manufacturable motor components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience designing electric machines such as motors or generators, including 2+ years of direct people management or formal team leadership.
• Strong understanding of motor construction, including lamination stacks, winding, magnet retention, and insulation materials.
• Expertise in 3D CAD modeling, preferably NX, 2D drawings, and advanced GD&T.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, thermal management, and structural analysis for rotating machinery.
• Strong project management, communication, safety, and quality practices.

Nice to have

• Aerospace development and certification experience with FAA or EASA.
• High-speed rotor dynamics and balancing experience.
• Experience with Jira, MS Project, or Smartsheet.
• Familiarity with ANSYS or NASTRAN for structural and thermal analysis.
