Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Semiconductor Fabrication)

Early-stage hardware startup building the hardware, software, fabrication facilities, tools, and components required to manufacture chips.

What you will do

• Own semiconductor fabrication systems and subsystems end to end, including deposition, etch, annealing, and plasma tools.
• Design and iterate on frames, components, assemblies, and other mechanical systems for semiconductor fabrication.
• Develop and integrate subsystems such as mass flow controllers, pressure sensors, valves, pumps, chambers, tubing, and thermal systems.
• Build, prototype, test, and validate complex equipment through rapid design cycles.
• Collaborate with process, electrical, software, and production teams.
• Source components and materials and coordinate with vendors to meet project specifications.

Requirements

• 2–7 years of professional experience in mechanical and electromechanical system design.
• 2–7 years of hands-on experience building, prototyping, and assembling complex systems.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Physics.
• Experience designing vacuum systems or fluid-handling hardware, with strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience designing and shipping machined and fabricated metal parts into working systems.
• Comfort working on-site in Austin and complying with applicable U.S. export controls is required. A portfolio of built projects is generally required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge or experience with plasma systems, CVD, or ALD.
• Familiarity with leak-detection techniques and vacuum diagnostics.
• Experience with productionization and testing.
