SUBSAFE Compliance Engineer (Aerospace/Defense)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; on-site. U.S. ITAR eligibility is required, including U.S. citizenship or nationality, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations.

Salary: $110,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own SUBSAFE and Material Level I compliance across procurement, receiving, identification, segregation, storage, movement, and disposition.
• Establish and audit objective quality evidence, including chemical, mechanical, and performance test data, certifications, and traceability records.
• Define certification boundaries and maintain procedures for material handling, cleanliness, traceability, non-conforming material, and escapes within the AS9100D quality system.
• Control non-conforming material, lead root-cause analysis and corrective action, and manage escalation to Central Quality and customers.
• Prepare for NAVSEA and customer audits, qualification and authorization activities, and internal SUBSAFE audits.
• Flow requirements to suppliers, strengthen receiving controls, and qualify personnel who handle SUBSAFE material.

Requirements

• 5+ years of quality experience in defense, marine, nuclear, or aerospace manufacturing, including direct SUBSAFE or Material Level I responsibility.
• Working knowledge of SUBSAFE requirements, NAVSEA 0924-062-0010, NAVSEAINST 4855.34, objective quality evidence, controlled-material handling, traceability, and cleanliness.
• Experience building or operating material-control and non-conformance processes in a regulated, audited environment.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.
• Experience at a submarine prime, shipyard, or qualified SUBSAFE supplier.
• AS9100 or ISO 9001 lead-auditor experience, familiarity with welding and NDT special-process controls, and CQE, CMQ/OE, or equivalent certification.

Nice to have

• Background with submarine primes or shipyards such as General Dynamics Electric Boat or HII Newport News.
• Experience establishing a compliance program and procedures from the ground up.
