Staff Engineer, Actuated Systems (RX) (R6001) (Aerospace)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; on-site. US citizens only with an active Secret or higher security clearance required.

Salary: $171,456–$257,184 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees.

What you will do

• Design and mature actuator, mechanism, linkage, bracket, and mounting layouts within aircraft packaging constraints.
• Own detailed CAD design from concept through drawing release, including load paths, materials, interfaces, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Size actuators and analyze kinematics and installations for flight control surfaces, bay doors, and other airframe mechanisms.
• Perform hand calculations and basic FEA for brackets, mounts, linkages, and installation hardware.
• Define and resolve interfaces with structures, EWIS, EPS, thermal management, and adjacent aircraft systems.
• Support suppliers, prototype assembly, qualification testing, hardware delivery, and airworthiness certification.

Requirements

• US citizenship and an active Secret or higher security clearance are required.
• 7–12 years of mechanical systems design experience in aerospace or another regulated industry, including actuated mechanisms or aircraft installations.
• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Deep knowledge of mechanical design, kinematics, load paths, materials selection, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Experience with hand calculations, basic FEA, 3D CAD modeling, mechanical layouts, and drawing release using Siemens NX, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent PLM workflows.
• Experience sourcing aerospace components, managing suppliers, and building bench or vehicle-level test setups.

Nice to have

• Experience with aircraft flight-control actuation, weapons bay doors, landing gear, or other deployable mechanisms.
• Experience with electro-mechanical or electro-hydrostatic actuation systems.
• Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD-810, and airworthiness verification planning.
• Machine shop, fabrication, mechanical assembly, or rapid-prototype build experience.
