TL;DR
Engineering Lead (Search) (OpenSearch/.NET): Building and delivering search experiences and scalable backend integrations for Moonpig’s product catalogue with an accent on OpenSearch, search ranking, resilient AWS infrastructure, and hands-on technical leadership. Focus on designing search and AI/ML-driven features, integrating frontend and backend services, and solving complex delivery and dependency challenges across engineering, product, design, and data teams.
Location: Manchester or London, hybrid with office attendance 1–2 days per week

What you will do
- Remain hands-on, spending approximately 50–75% of the role coding and delivering Search initiatives.
- Own and develop backend integration with OpenSearch and build scalable, resilient infrastructure with AWS and Terraform.
- Develop customer-facing features across .NET/C#, React, Node.js, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
- Design, implement, test, and A/B test search and customer-facing features using agile delivery practices.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and engineering teams on AI/ML-driven features using internal inference APIs and external LLMs.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, delivery planning, estimation, dependency management, and roadmap input without direct line management responsibility.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or comparable search-engine technology, including search models and product ranking.
- Strong software engineering experience with C#/.NET and experience across frontend and backend development.
- Experience with several of AWS serverless, React, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Terraform, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to collaborate on complex technical work, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and provide reasoned delivery estimates.
- Collaborative leadership style with an interest in coaching engineers, sharing knowledge, and taking the next step from senior engineering into broader technical leadership.
