Director of Engineering (AI SaaS)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid. In-person office work is required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

What you will do

• Lead Engineering Managers and Team Leads across a group of 25–50 engineers and own outcomes across multiple teams.
• Hire, coach, develop, and performance-manage engineering leaders while building the next generation of management talent.
• Own organizational design, headcount planning, team structure, planning, prioritization, and reporting.
• Resolve cross-team dependencies, ambiguous ownership, and architectural decisions that span multiple teams.
• Partner with the CTO and Product leadership on technical strategy, roadmap execution, build-versus-buy decisions, and investment priorities.
• Ensure monitoring, observability, incident response, delivery quality, and customer feedback are incorporated across the engineering group.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• 2+ years managing managers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management of Engineering Managers or Team Leads.
• Experience leading 25–50 engineers across multiple teams and owning organizational design.
• Strong technical background in modern web technologies, distributed systems, cloud architecture, and scalability.
• Experience delivering complex multi-team programs, scaling engineering organizations, and implementing effective engineering processes.
• Experience working directly with enterprise customers and translating their needs into technical solutions.

• Experience with TypeScript, React, AWS, or serverless architecture.
• Experience at a successful Series A+ B2B SaaS company.
