Animal Husbandry Specialist (Herpetology & Fish)

Location: Based in Dallas, Texas, United States; relocation assistance is available. The role includes indoor and outdoor work in heat, humidity, plant allergens, insects, and field conditions, as well as weekends, holidays, and evenings when needed.

What you will do

• Provide daily husbandry for reptiles, amphibians, and fish, including diet preparation and habitat maintenance.
• Manage life support systems, terrarium habitats, equipment, tools, and surrounding areas.
• Create habitats that support successful breeding and optimal animal welfare.
• Monitor and document animal behavior, health, and wellbeing, reporting issues to leadership.
• Support veterinary and research staff with medical examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Develop and implement training, enrichment, and behavioral modification plans.

Requirements

• Proven experience with amphibian, reptile, and fish husbandry and breeding.
• At least 2 years of experience in animal care.
• Ability to manage life support systems and establish terrarium habitats independently.
• Strong animal handling, restraint, observation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of operant conditioning and behavioral modification methods.
• AA/AS/BA/BS in Biological Sciences is preferred; ability to lift at least 50 pounds and perform strenuous work is required.
