TL;DR
Main System Engineer, Body Systems – Exteriors & Interiors (Automotive): Integrating engineering delivery across exterior and interior body systems for electric pickup trucks and rugged SUVs with an accent on cross-functional alignment, governance readiness, and program risk visibility. Focus on consolidating system status, preparing decision-ready leadership reviews, resolving dependencies, and driving closure of technical, cost, timing, quality, sourcing, and integration risks.

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, or Novi, Michigan, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office with regular in-person meetings, events, and travel.

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Support the Main System Lead in integrating delivery across exterior and interior body systems, including trim, lighting, glazing, instrument panels, consoles, seating, and restraints.
  • Coordinate SET Leaders and cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, product, purchasing, manufacturing, finance, quality, and logistics.
  • Prepare technical, cost, timing, quality, sourcing, and risk topics for governance forums and leadership decision-making.
  • Consolidate status reporting, monitor milestones and sourcing readiness, and maintain visibility of open issues and mitigation plans.
  • Facilitate escalations, resolve cross-functional dependencies, and drive accountability for action-item and risk closure.
  • Develop integrated management summaries and support communication of priorities, decisions, risks, and recovery plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive engineering, program management, systems engineering, or vehicle development.
  • Experience working in cross-functional vehicle development organizations.
  • Strong understanding of automotive product development and launch processes.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work primarily in the office and travel to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities as required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with body systems, interiors, exteriors, vehicle integration, or engineering program management.
  • Knowledge of VW Group tools and processes.
  • Experience with engineering governance, vehicle development milestones, sourcing, launch readiness, timing management, issue resolution, and risk mitigation.
