TL;DR
Senior Interior Systems Engineer - Hard Trim (Automotive): Developing and launching hard-trim cabin systems and full-vehicle interior components with an accent on 3D geometry, crash-load design, manufacturing feasibility, and regulatory compliance. Focus on balancing construction, materials, cost, weight, craftsmanship, and production requirements while coordinating with design, manufacturing, suppliers, and engineering teams.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. Hybrid work; candidates within commuting distance of a hirify.global hub may be required to work onsite four or more days per week. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $118,700–$198,500 for salary grade 7 or $138,800–$232,700 for salary grade 8, depending on scope, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Develop hard-trim system requirements, specifications, geometry, and engineering execution with design, supply chain, and core teams.
  • Set component and system targets for function, cost, weight, and investment.
  • Design 3D concepts that address challenging crash-load cases while balancing construction, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Optimize designs through analytical and physical assessments and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Apply GD&T to deliver high-quality craftsmanship and fit and finish.
  • Coordinate with studio, packaging, advanced engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and senior management through production launch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing interior subsystems and adjoining parts, including manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • 3+ years of collaborative 3D CAD experience with tools such as NX, CATIA, or 3DX.
  • 2+ years of team lead experience, plus system-level management experience.
  • Experience with production release processes and launching a new product in a factory setting.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is available.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Advanced GD&T knowledge and expertise with CATIA, ENOVIA, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, Jira, Asana, or similar information and project management tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
