Senior System Design Engineer (Machine Control Systems)

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States; onsite. Travel, including international travel, is less than 25%.

Salary: $115,600–$158,900 per year, plus potential bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Design and integrate machine control systems for excavators, bulldozers, graders, and other earthmoving and paving equipment.
• Develop system architectures, product designs, verification activities, and subsystem requirements.
• Select and design electronics hardware components, system diagrams, and schematics.
• Define machine control networks, communication interfaces, electrical implementations, bus loading analyses, and messaging protocols.
• Support product safety lifecycles, V-model execution, safety concepts, and safety architectures.
• Lead complex technical problem solving and provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of embedded product development experience and at least 3 years developing functionally safe products.
• Experience with system design, system architectures, CAN networks, machine integration, and vehicular communication and control systems.
• Knowledge of electronic hardware and software product development processes and tools.
• Experience applying functional safety principles and contributing to hazard analyses, FMEAs, FMEDAs, and other product risk assessments.
• Strong analytical, communication, technical writing, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with machine control systems and construction or agricultural machinery.
• Knowledge of ISO 19014, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and ISO 26262.
• Experience developing organizational standards, reconciling regulatory requirements, and defining detailed engineering requirements.
• Analog or digital circuit design experience and familiarity with inertial measurement units, accelerometers, and gyroscopes.
