Senior Underwriter, Commercial Auto

Location: Primarily hybrid across hirify.global office locations in the United States; remote consideration may be available for exceptionally qualified candidates. Primary location is Chicago, Illinois, with additional locations in Atlanta, Boston, Houston, Irvine, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, and Warren, New Jersey.

Salary: $119,000–$150,000 annually, depending on education, experience, qualifications, and work location.

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal E&S Commercial Auto business, including fleet, public auto, contractor auto, transportation, and other complex vehicle-related exposures.
• Build and manage a profitable book of business across the assigned Central Region territory.
• Develop relationships with wholesale brokers and identify new business opportunities.
• Evaluate risk exposures, pricing adequacy, terms, and coverage structures.
• Execute regional underwriting strategies and monitor market, industry, and broker activity.
• Collaborate with Claims, Actuarial, Operations, Product, and Distribution teams while following underwriting authorities and referral processes.

Requirements

• 5–7+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience.
• Strong expertise in Commercial Auto underwriting, preferably in the E&S or wholesale market.
• Experience with transportation, contractor auto, trucking, specialty vehicle, or auto-focused casualty risks.
• Proven success managing broker relationships and generating new business.
• Ability to independently manage a book of business and make data-driven underwriting decisions.
• Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and business development skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with E&S, surplus lines, or wholesale underwriting.
• Experience with primary casualty and auto liability products.
• Existing broker relationships throughout the Central Region.
• CPCU, ASLI, AU, ARM, or similar insurance designation.
