AVP, Commercial Lines Strategic Business Unit Leader (Hybrid)

Location: Hybrid role based in Short Hills, New Jersey, United States, with a strong in-person field presence

Salary: USD $184,000–$238,000 per year

What you will do

• Set and advance underwriting strategies across the Contractors, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Mercantile-Service, and Community & Public Services strategic business units.
• Generate portfolio, segment, market, and regional insights to drive profitable growth, diversification, and adherence to underwriting standards.
• Assess economic, technological, social, political, and environmental factors affecting customers, and develop strategies to manage opportunities and risks.
• Identify new coverage and product opportunities and partner with Product teams on technology solutions that improve underwriting efficiency and accuracy.
• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop subject matter experts supporting regional underwriters through referrals, consultations, and knowledge transfer.
• Provide underwriting expertise on complex and high-exposure risks while partnering with actuarial, analytics, claims, legal, marketing, product, compliance, and regional teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of generalist Commercial Lines underwriting experience.
• 5+ years of experience in the relevant strategic business unit market segments.
• Proven leadership capability with strong problem-solving, presentation, networking, relationship-building, sales, and negotiation skills.
• Experience managing small projects and delivering excellent customer service.
• College degree preferred.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile required.
