Associate Director, Software Engineering (AI)

Salary: $150,000–$210,000 per year

What you will do

• Direct the technical design and implementation of new agentic AI capabilities.
• Build infrastructure that supports reliable, efficient, large-scale scientific workflows.
• Translate research requirements into robust production systems with scientific and engineering teams.
• Establish engineering practices for agentic engineering, DevOps, observability, infrastructure automation, and cloud operations.
• Manage and mentor senior engineers while shaping long-term platform strategy.
• Lead a team with 1–2 initial direct reports and potential future growth.

Requirements

• Fluency in agentic engineering and recent LLM ecosystems such as Claude, Codex, or Copilot.
• BS with 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant leadership in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering; alternatively, a Master’s with 8+ years or a PhD with 5+ years of related experience.
• 5+ years of management experience.
• Experience designing and delivering high-scale distributed systems in AWS or GCP cloud environments.
• Deep knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization, cloud-native operations, and modern database systems.
• Strong communication, stakeholder alignment, and cross-disciplinary team leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with scientific computing, bioinformatics workflows, or large-scale data processing pipelines.
• Experience integrating heterogeneous research, clinical, and operational systems.
• Experience managing mission-critical operations with strict reliability and throughput requirements.
