Advanced Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Illinois, United States; hybrid/remote arrangement

Salary: $103,000–$155,000 annually, plus performance bonus and long-term incentives.

Legal data intelligence company developing an AI-powered cloud platform for litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, data breach responses, and other high-stakes legal work.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate secure, scalable full-stack cloud services processing petabytes of data weekly.
• Build performant and accessible user interfaces, backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Develop distributed workflows for large-scale LLM document review and model-routing infrastructure across cloud regions and sovereign environments.
• Improve platform throughput, latency, capacity headroom, token efficiency, failover, and cost per document.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design partners to deliver AI-powered legal data solutions and safely deploy new models, including in government cloud environments.
• Participate in design and code reviews, service ownership, on-call rotations, incident response, and reliability improvements.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating cloud-native distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with APIs, event-driven architecture, data platforms, and cloud-based distributed services.
• Production experience with Python and/or C#/.NET, Kubernetes, and a major cloud provider.
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested code using modern tooling and CI/CD.
• Experience with distributed tracing, metrics, production debugging, service ownership, and on-call support.
• Security, reliability, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Full-stack development experience with modern UI frameworks.
• Experience with performance or cost optimization, LLM APIs, prompt and model versioning, evaluation, streaming, token accounting, or rate-limit management.
• Experience with durable workflow engines such as Temporal, Airflow, or Step Functions, and high-volume batch or streaming data pipelines.
• Familiarity with AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
• Interest in agentic systems, MCP, tool calling, and infrastructure for regulated environments.
