Senior Underwriting Specialist (Marine Cargo)

Location: New York, United States; primarily in the office

Base salary: $118,000–$178,000 annually for positions based in New York. The role is also eligible for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

• Underwrite Cargo products and perform highly technical, complex assignments within the area of expertise.
• Accept, decline, or modify new and renewal submissions by analyzing exposures, coverage, exclusions, and assumed risks.
• Manage a book of business, conduct strategic account and portfolio reviews, and contribute to regional budgets and production goals.
• Develop pricing, negotiation strategies, terms, conditions, and deal structures with brokers and clients.
• Collaborate with Marine leadership, distribution teams, and other underwriters on target accounts and cross-selling opportunities.
• Build strategic broker and client relationships, provide technical direction, and represent the organization at client and broker meetings.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in a commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage.
• Advanced knowledge of the Marine Cargo line of business, including multinational and captive programs, product features, forms, and associated risks.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment, manage ambiguity, prioritize multiple tasks, and work at pace.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Post-secondary education and strong financial understanding.
