Senior Underwriter II, Wholesale Casualty

Location: Hybrid role based in Chicago, IL, requiring regular in-office collaboration and broker engagement throughout the Chicago market.

Salary: $137,000–$165,000 annual base salary, depending on education, experience, qualifications, and work location.

What you will do

• Underwrite new and renewal E&S General Liability business within established authority levels.
• Build and manage a profitable portfolio of middle-market casualty accounts.
• Develop relationships with wholesale brokers across the Midwest and monitor opportunities in the Chicago territory.
• Evaluate risk exposures, pricing adequacy, coverage structures, and account profitability.
• Drive new business production while meeting underwriting and portfolio objectives.
• Collaborate with Claims, Actuarial, Product, Finance, and Operations teams on regional growth initiatives.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of commercial casualty underwriting experience.
• Strong General Liability underwriting expertise.
• Experience in the E&S, surplus lines, specialty, or wholesale insurance market.
• Demonstrated success managing broker relationships and growing a profitable book of business.
• Strong analytical, risk assessment, negotiation, communication, and portfolio management skills.
• Ability to work regularly in the Chicago office and engage with brokers throughout the local market.

Nice to have

• Wholesale distribution experience.
• Excess Casualty or Primary Casualty experience.
• Experience with complex exposures in construction, manufacturing, habitational, real estate, energy, or transportation.
• CPCU, AU, ASLI, ARM, or similar insurance designation.
