Software Engineer II, Backend (Identity Decisioning)

Location: Remote in Canada, limited to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan

Salary: CAD $133,000–$183,000 base pay per year

What you will do

• Build backend systems that validate consumer identity across Affirm products and satisfy KYC regulatory protocols.
• Break down larger projects into tasks, deliver them in phases, and collaborate with technical and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Partner with product management, design, analytics, compliance, fraud, authentication, and engineering teams to evaluate technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, support service availability, and participate in on-call and maintenance efforts.
• Contribute to engineering growth through knowledge sharing, feedback, code reviews, and interviews.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems with proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to translate business problems into solutions spanning multiple software components and write clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Experience navigating large codebases, debugging code, and providing engineering feedback through code reviews.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
