Communications Operator (Healthcare)

Location: Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W Highway 22, Barrington, Illinois, United States. Onsite role with overnight shifts, some evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: $18.85–$28.30 per hour

What you will do

• Answer incoming and internal calls through the AMCOM/Alcatel telecommunications system and route callers to the appropriate department or individual.
• Respond to emergency panel and wall signals, alert required personnel, and make overhead announcements for emergencies, codes, and drills.
• Monitor cameras and notify Public Safety when necessary.
• Page hospital personnel, exchange and troubleshoot pagers, and maintain the pager database.
• Perform minor phone repairs and replace handsets, cords, and related equipment in staff and patient rooms.
• Maintain logs, reports, projects, schedules, and telecommunications trouble reports while covering shift absences when needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience.
• Fluent English communication skills required.
• Good communication, keyboarding, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain patient and compassionate with callers.
• Ability to sit through the shift and use information from boards, screens, overhead monitors, and alarm panels; ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
