Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Salary: $18.40–$27.60 per hour

What you will do

• Provide patient-first customer service and respond to questions, concerns, and service issues.
• Collect and verify patient demographic, registration, referral, authorization, and insurance information.
• Schedule and direct patients through hospital systems while coordinating with departments and physician offices.
• Perform medical necessity checks, insurance eligibility verification, real-time eligibility checks, and out-of-pocket estimations.
• Document accurate handoffs, messages, and telephone encounters in Epic and related systems.
• Support quality assurance, cross-training, staff education, workflow coverage, and process improvement activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Computer data-entry and typing proficiency, including the ability to type 40 words per minute.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, organizational, analytical, multitasking, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Huntley, Illinois, and comply with patient confidentiality, healthcare, and organizational requirements.

Nice to have

• Additional education or language skills.
• Healthcare finance or healthcare insurance experience.
• Healthcare experience, especially in patient scheduling or registration.
