TL;DR
Satellite Data Processing Engineer (Remote Sensing) (Python/QGIS): Assessing and automating imagery quality across a satellite fleet with an accent on optical remote sensing, visual QA, and geospatial data processing. Focus on building QGIS-based tools, backend scripts, and data pipelines while investigating customer quality disputes and shifting routine checks into automation.

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with three days per week in the Berlin office

Salary: €38,000–€47,500 gross annually

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates a large constellation of imaging satellites and delivers satellite imagery through a cloud-based data platform.

What you will do

  • Assess satellite imagery manually and with automated tools against contractual and technical quality standards.
  • Build and maintain internal quality-assessment tools, including QGIS-based tooling, backend scripts, and data pipelines.
  • Support investigations of customer-reported imagery quality disputes by gathering technical evidence.
  • Contribute to automated quality-assessment systems and help move routine checks from manual review to automation.
  • Write clear technical reports and tickets for engineering teams.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree in geoinformatics, geomatics, remote sensing, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of optical remote sensing fundamentals.
  • Solid Python skills, including version control, code review, and production-oriented scripting.
  • Experience with QGIS or Python geospatial libraries such as GDAL, rasterio, or Shapely.
  • Basic SQL and database familiarity.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to explain technical findings to non-specialists.

Nice to have

  • Linux experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI.
  • Experience with desktop GUI development using PySide6 or Qt, or building small internal tools end-to-end.
