Associate Principal, Mechanical (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection): Leading mechanical design teams and delivering complex institutional and healthcare projects in Toronto with an accent on team management, quality control, client relationships, and business development. Focus on designing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems, coordinating field reviews, responding to RFPs, and managing project execution with minimal technical support.

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada — 380 Wellington Street West

Base compensation: $140,800–$176,000 annually, subject to local market and candidate qualifications.

What you will do

  • Lead the mechanical project design team and manage staffing, workload planning, utilization, and forecasting.
  • Provide technical leadership for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control system design.
  • Lead healthcare and other institutional projects ranging from functional programming and business cases to major renovations and additions.
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control practices and coordinate field review services.
  • Build relationships with clients, project stakeholders, associations, government bodies, and other entities.
  • Manage key clients and pursuits, contribute to GO/NO-GO decisions, and support team performance and business growth.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of design experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and control systems.
  • Experience leading and designing healthcare projects.
  • Experience leading teams or mentoring junior and intermediate staff.
  • Experience responding to RFPs and writing business cases.
  • University degree or college/technology diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PEng) designation.

Nice to have

  • LEED Accredited Professional designation or another relevant rating or performance system.
