TL;DR
Service Director, Geotechnical Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering): Leading strategic and operational delivery for geotechnical engineering services across Canadian infrastructure, transportation, industrial, commercial, institutional, and land development projects with an accent on financial performance, technical excellence, safety, and talent development. Focus on directing complex foundation and geotechnical analysis programs, strengthening client relationships and revenue growth, and ensuring quality and profitability across project delivery.

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the Oakville, Ontario or Guelph, Ontario office. Travel of up to 20% is required.

Salary: $160,000–$210,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the geotechnical engineering service line and drive revenue, profitability, utilization, margins, pipeline, and cost-management targets.
  • Lead Service Leads and multidisciplinary teams, oversee workforce planning and hiring, and develop talent through performance and succession planning.
  • Direct project staffing, technical delivery, project reviews, lifecycle controls, quality assurance, and profitability across geotechnical assignments.
  • Support business development, account strategy, proposals, client relationships, and cross-service collaboration to secure new and repeat work.
  • Act as Project Director, subject matter expert, or proposal lead when appropriate.
  • Champion safety standards and collaborate with functional leaders across HR, Finance, Health and Safety, Legal, and Marketing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a valid P.Eng. designation required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of progressive post-graduation geotechnical engineering experience, including investigations, foundation engineering, earthworks, and advanced analysis and design.
  • Expertise in shallow and deep foundations, drilled shafts, driven piles, micropiles, retaining structures, and ground improvement systems.
  • Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, settlement analysis, slope stability, seepage analysis, and finite element modeling.
  • Experience with GeoStudio, LPile, Group, Settle3D, PLAXIS, Rocscience, or equivalent geotechnical software.
  • Valid Class 5 or G driver’s license with no restrictions, plus experience in project management, technical proposals, business development, and multidisciplinary team leadership.
