Senior Software Development Engineer (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; may require onsite work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. At least 50% of each quarter is spent in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD for the primary location; $148,200–$264,000 USD for additional U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain distributed messaging, streaming, and caching services using Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ, and related technologies.
• Develop core software modules, client libraries, SDKs, observability components, alerts, and lifecycle automation.
• Operate and optimize large-scale distributed infrastructure across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, private cloud, public cloud, and AWS environments.
• Improve resiliency, operational excellence, and graceful degradation under heavy load.
• Evaluate cloud-native and open-source technologies and participate in on-call support.
• Partner with Federal Cyber Defense on platform security, cybersecurity posture, governance, risk, compliance, and security operations.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Poly clearance is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in distributed systems, software engineering, systems, infrastructure, or platforms.
• At least 10 years of experience with Ruby, Golang, Python, Java, or Scala and at least 10 years working on U.S. federal projects.
• Experience operating large-scale SaaS platforms and working across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with Chef, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, CI/CD, Agile methodologies, and distributed system deployments.

Nice to have

• Active DoD 8570/8140-compliant IAT Level II certification with a current Computing Environment credential and an approved specialty certification such as CompTIA CySA+, GICSP, or CASP+.
• Experience with Java, C/C++, Erlang, Python, or Golang and the ability to inspect complex open-source service internals.
