Senior Software Development Engineer (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; employees may be required to work on site at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. The role supports U.S. Federal Government contracts and requires personnel working on those contracts to be U.S. citizens. The position uses hirify.global Flex Work, with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or field.

Annual base salary: $163,800–$245,800 USD for the primary location; additional U.S. locations have a base salary range of $148,200–$264,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, build, and enhance monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing services.
• Develop data capture, collection, ingestion, and processing services across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal, and cloud-native environments.
• Build metrics ingestion pipelines, alert definitions, and dashboard lifecycle automation.
• Deploy and optimize infrastructure components in production and participate in the observability platform on-call rotation.
• Operate hirify.global in air-gapped U.S. AWS cloud regions and collaborate with commercial platform engineering teams.
• Partner with Federal Cyber Defense on cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required for personnel working on the U.S. Federal Government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance is required; an active TS/SCI with CI Poly is preferred.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of experience building high-performance data ingestion software, including work on concurrency, latency, and efficiency.
• Strong Java and Python skills; experience with Go, API design, reliable data delivery, time-series databases, log management, Kubernetes, and Linux.
• Experience with infrastructure automation using Ansible, Chef, or Terraform.

Nice to have

• Experience with Prometheus, Elasticsearch, Grafana, InfluxData, PromQL, and InfluxQL.
• Hands-on Kubernetes and Helm experience.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance with at least IAT Level II certification and relevant CE and specialty certifications.
