Principal Consultant - Functional Safety Autonomy Cyber (Automotive)

Location: Remote role associated with Troy, Michigan and Northbrook, Illinois, United States. Optional travel to client sites and other UL locations may be required.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 USD annually, plus a target annual bonus of 20% of base salary.

What you will do

• Lead the development and review of functional safety work products for vehicle, autonomous driving, industrial automation, battery, and energy storage systems.
• Apply ISO 26262, ISO 21448, UL 4600, IEC 61508, IEC/EN 62061, ISO 61511, ISO 13849, and related safety standards.
• Develop safety argumentation and evidence-based safety cases covering system, hardware, and software safety concepts.
• Perform hazard and risk analyses and detailed safety analyses, including HARA, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA, and STPA.
• Define and decompose safety requirements, review diagnostic concepts and architectural metrics, and perform verification reviews and technical assessments.
• Lead client programs, technical workshops, safety training, gap analyses, business development activities, and proposal estimates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in an automotive functional safety role.
• Hands-on electronic system, hardware, and software product design and development experience with a strong focus on safety lifecycle activities.
• Knowledge of HARA, STPA, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA, and DFA safety analyses.
• Experience working with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448.
• Ability to work in the United States location framework associated with this remote role.
