Design Release Engineer - Instrument Panel Structure

Location: Warren, Michigan; hybrid work with on-site presence at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel required up to 25%. Relocation assistance is not provided.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, integration, validation, and launch of instrument panel structure subsystems across vehicle programs.
• Develop concepts, perform engineering evaluations, and apply DFMEA, DRBFM, ICDs, PFMEA, CAE, and safety performance analysis.
• Manage component packaging, CAD development, design reviews, configuration work, and change management.
• Evaluate welded steel stampings, magnesium die castings, and hybrid plastic/metal overmolding processes.
• Coordinate with CAE, Thermal, Electrical, Body, Chassis, Restraints, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, and other partner organizations.
• Lead plant builds, supplier trials, DV/PV events, craftsmanship audits, issue resolution, and launch activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Materials, or related Engineering.
• At least five years of experience developing steel, magnesium, or aluminum instrument panel structures through launch.
• Knowledge of instrument panel performance requirements, regulations, vehicle integration, component design, manufacturability, and automation.
• Experience with validation plans, CAD workflows, release processes, DFMEA/DRBFM, ICDs, and PFMEA collaboration.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage projects, resolve issues, communicate risks, and influence decisions.
• Proficiency with CAD and visualization tools such as NX or VisMockup, productivity tools, and applicable AI tools. DfSS Green Belt certification is required within one year and Black Belt certification within two years of hire.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• Ten to fifteen years of automotive or transportation engineering experience.
• DfSS Black Belt certification or higher.
• Concept math creation experience using NX or a similar CAD tool.
