Staff Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Lead the design, analysis, build, integration, and testing of critical flight hardware from concept through flight.
• Serve as a technical authority in mechanisms, structures, avionics packaging, or another mechanical systems domain.
• Perform or lead structural analysis using first-principles engineering, FEA, statics, vibration, and modal analysis.
• Drive rapid design iterations by incorporating test results and lessons learned into hardware improvements.
• Work hands-on with technicians, manufacturing, suppliers, and test teams to troubleshoot hardware and resolve problems.
• Mentor engineers and improve CAD, analysis, documentation, and hardware development practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience taking complex hardware through design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, testing, and operation.
• Deep expertise in at least one mechanical domain, such as mechanisms, structures, or avionics packaging.
• Expert CAD and mechanical design skills, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and manufacturability.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, statics, vibration, FEA, and hands-on hardware problem-solving.

Nice to have

• Nonlinear FEA experience, including contact, material nonlinearity, or large deformation.
• Experience correlating analytical models with physical test data.
• Aerospace, hypersonic, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or other high-performance flight hardware experience.
• Experience with composites, coatings, finishes, advanced manufacturing, or engineering methodology development.
• Experience mentoring and technically developing engineers.
