TL;DR
Diagnostic Strategist - Electrification Battery Systems (Automotive): Developing and optimizing diagnostic calibrations for electric and hybrid-electric vehicle systems with an accent on requirements engineering, in-vehicle testing, empirical data analysis, and calibration tools. Focus on designing diagnostic tests, identifying system vulnerabilities, supporting root-cause analysis, and providing technical guidance across cross-functional engineering teams.

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan; report onsite at least three times per week or as directed by the business. The role includes in-vehicle and laboratory work, onsite vehicle evaluations, and offsite development trips. Relocation benefits are available for eligible candidates under company policy.

What you will do

  • Develop and document requirements for automotive system calibration.
  • Design and manage system interfaces that support component reuse and engineering best practices.
  • Develop, optimize, and verify diagnostic calibrations for performance and timing requirements.
  • Plan and execute diagnostic development activities, including in-vehicle calibration, laboratory testing, and analytical work.
  • Analyze empirical data, design diagnostic tests, investigate root causes, and support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability, dyno, and customer issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to diagnostic calibrators and represent the team in program and strategy forums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or software engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics, and/or hardware development.
  • Knowledge of and passion for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.
  • Experience with INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, project planning, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or software engineering.
  • 8 or more years of experience in automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics, and/or hardware development.
  • At least 2 years of onboard vehicle diagnostic experience.
  • Experience providing technical direction, interacting with senior leaders, and working with software or calibration development processes.
  • Knowledge of OBD regulations, including CARB and China 6.
