Healthcare Emergency Management Consultant

Location: Remote - United States; supports facilities in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Domestic travel up to 50% is required, with travel within Region 1 counties potentially exceeding 50% during the first year.

What you will do

• Support the development and implementation of a Long-Term Care Mutual Aid Plan serving approximately 486 skilled nursing facilities.
• Coordinate with skilled nursing facilities, healthcare organizations, emergency management partners, public health agencies, and industry associations.
• Conduct site visits, facility onboarding, orientations, initial and annual training, drill reporting, and full-scale disaster exercises.
• Facilitate meetings, workshops, and exercises, presenting information to audiences with different roles and technical backgrounds.
• Maintain client relationships, identify business opportunities, support proposals, and present solutions to prospective clients.
• Develop client education materials and keep current with regulations, accreditation standards, and professional practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, fire protection, fire science, safety, or a related field preferred; an associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience coordinating or facilitating training and exercises with healthcare and emergency response partners.
• Knowledge of mutual aid in long-term care settings, the CMS 2016 Emergency Preparedness Rule, applicable accreditation standards, and relevant NFPA standards.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel domestically up to 50%, with potentially higher travel in California Region 1 during the first year.
• Strong communication, presentation, organizational, judgment, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technology platforms.

Nice to have

• Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) credential.
