Underwriting Specialist, Western World (Casualty)

Location: Parsippany, New Jersey, United States; primarily in-office

Base salary: $130,000–$171,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Underwrite and manage profitable casualty and package business across new and renewal submissions.
• Analyze exposures, loss history, financial information, and underwriting data to make risk selection and pricing decisions.
• Negotiate terms, conditions, pricing, and coverage structures with wholesale partners.
• Act as the casualty subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced underwriters.
• Partner with leadership on casualty growth initiatives, portfolio performance analysis, and business strategies.
• Build agency relationships through business planning, agency visits, industry events, and marketing functions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of E&S casualty underwriting experience, including middle-market and larger accounts.
• Strong technical expertise in General Liability, Products Liability, and Excess Liability underwriting.
• Ability to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Proven ability to mentor less experienced underwriters.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work primarily in the Parsippany, New Jersey office.

Nice to have

• Experience underwriting package business and commercial property coverages.
• Established relationships within the wholesale brokerage community.
• CPCU, AU, ARM, ASLI, or another relevant professional designation.
• Experience with delegated underwriting authority environments and the E&S marketplace.
