Specialist, Contract Underwriting - E&S/Specialty (E&S Senior Underwriter)

Location: Arizona - Scottsdale; this position may be filled within any of the lower 48 U.S. states. Normal office environment with travel to agency offices and out-of-state travel several times a year.

Salary: $84,000-$126,000 expected starting annual range; national range $84,000-$156,000.

What you will do

• Underwrite complex non-admitted and specialty risks, determining acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, conditions, endorsements, and exclusions.
• Quote, price, and manage new, renewal, and mid-term policy activity for complex and service-sensitive accounts.
• Analyze claims, loss history, premiums, loss ratios, submissions, and portfolio performance to recommend corrective action.
• Build and maintain relationships with general agents, program managers, brokers, agents, and reinsurers.
• Place treaty and facultative reinsurance in accordance with department guidelines.
• Support product, form, rate, marketing, training, and technical development initiatives.

Requirements

• Five years of underwriting experience or six years of related experience, with E&S or excess and surplus lines experience preferred.
• Experience with property and general liability underwriting, insurance law, rating plans, regulatory issues, and E&S market conditions.
• Strong analytical, risk assessment, negotiation, communication, decision-making, and territory management skills.
• Ability to work independently with substantial authority and minimal supervision.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute.
• This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization and hirify.global does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Nice to have

• Insurance designations or coursework such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI.
• Experience with general agency or wholesale distribution systems and treaty or facultative reinsurance.
