Coding Consultant Outpatient - PRN (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Review hospital medical records and assign accurate diagnosis, procedure, discharge disposition, and APC codes.
• Sequence codes based on medical record documentation and abstract coded data for statistical and reporting requirements.
• Identify documentation improvement opportunities and communicate coding or reimbursement issues to relevant personnel.
• Maintain 95% coding accuracy, 95% APC assignment accuracy, and site productivity standards.
• Track continuing education credits, attend sponsored education sessions, and complete assigned compliance testing.
• Collaborate with coworkers, management, and hospital staff while handling high-complexity coding decisions.

Requirements

• AHIMA certification such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, or AAPC certification such as CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC, or CRC.
• At least 2 years of hospital or coding consulting experience.
• Proficiency in outpatient coding specialties including same-day surgery, observation, injections and infusions, ancillary services, emergency department, and E/M leveling.
• Experience with computerized encoding and abstracting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication, time management, organization, teamwork, and remote-work skills.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from the United States; employment sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Extensive observation coding experience with injections and infusions.
• Academic or Level 1 trauma experience.
• Carving-out experience.
• Surgery coding experience.
