Medical Coding Specialist

Location: Remote - Nationwide, United States; occasional travel to and onsite work at client, temporary, or corporate offices may be required based on business needs.

Salary: $20.45–$24.70 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Review outpatient medical records and assign ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT IV, and HCPCS codes using 3M software tools.
• Abstract required clinical and administrative data according to facility specifications.
• Perform medical necessity checks for Medicare and other payers.
• Work discharged-not-final-billed accounts, failed claims, stop bills, and epremis to support timely outpatient claim processing.
• Apply CMS coverage, modifier, and billing requirements to help submit clean claims.
• Maintain coding accuracy, productivity, quality standards, and compliance while reporting software inaccuracies or potential unethical activity.

Requirements

• AAPC or AHIMA coding certification required: CPC-A, CPC, CCA, or CCS.
• At least 1 year of previous medical coding experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with EPIC and coding software tools.
• Knowledge of PCs and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organization, communication, time management, troubleshooting, problem-solving, multitasking, and prioritization skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in multiple professional-fee specialties, including HemOnc/interventional radiology, orthopedics, allergy/ENT, OBGYN, cardiology, general surgery, pediatric general surgery, or pulmonology.
