Coder - Outpatient Surgical/Anesthesia (ICD-10-CM/CPT)

What you will do

• Review medical records, physician treatment plans, clinical courses, and outcomes.
• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes for outpatient surgical and anesthesia services.
• Abstract medical and demographic data for hospital, health system, and medical staff reporting needs.
• Enter coded and abstracted information into the designated system.
• Support efficient management of medical information, cash flow, and unbilled coding reports.
• Monitor changes to ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines and apply updates to daily coding work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed coursework in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• At least one year of hospital or physician coding experience.
• At least one year of coding experience involving major surgeries, observations, and/or evaluation and management services.
• Strong data-entry skills, computer application knowledge, and ability to work with healthcare team members.
• One of the listed credentials is required or accepted: RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A.

Nice to have

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field.
