Data Protection Officer (AI Governance)

Location: Hybrid, with attendance at the hirify.global office in Nuneaton or London for a minimum of 3 days per week.

What you will do

• Act as the independent Group-wide Data Protection Officer and senior privacy expert.
• Own and evolve the privacy strategy, governance, policies and assurance programme.
• Advise and challenge the Board, Executive Committee and senior leaders on privacy risk and practical next steps.
• Oversee DPIAs, data subject rights, breaches, complaints, international transfers, retention and third-party privacy risk.
• Lead engagement with supervisory authorities and support complex regulatory matters and investigations.
• Build privacy by design into digital, data, technology, marketing, HR and transformation initiatives, while leading the Data Protection team.
• Develop the Personal Data and AI Centre of Excellence, including practical standards, guidance, training and governance for AI and automated decision-making.

Requirements

• Significant experience in a senior privacy role, ideally as a DPO, Deputy DPO or senior privacy lead in a complex organisation.
• In-depth knowledge of UK and EU data protection law.
• Ability to translate technically or legally complex issues into clear risks, required changes and practical next steps.
• Confidence independently challenging senior leaders and handling complex incidents and regulatory matters.
• Experience building privacy governance that works in practice.
• Sufficient digital and data fluency to understand use cases, ask effective questions and identify privacy risks.

• Experience with AI governance or automated decision-making.
