Applications Engineer (ActiveCopper/manufacturing): Developing and optimizing copper paste deposition and sintering processes for test boards, functional boards, and customer boards with an accent on experimental design, process characterization, and equipment evaluation. Location: Onsite at the MacDermid Alpha site in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. The nearest secondary market is Philadelphia.

Salary: $81,470–$122,206 per year, depending on experience and education.

What you will do

  • Execute paste deposition and sintering process development studies using printing, vacuum-assisted deposition, and laser stencil cutting equipment.
  • Support experimental design and apply Design of Experiments principles to ActiveCopper projects.
  • Evaluate paste and sinter processes on basic test boards, internal functional boards, and customer boards.
  • Analyze performance data, interpret results, and prepare technical reports and project summaries.
  • Use cross-sectioning, optical microscopy, SEM, AOI, and X-ray tools to characterize deposit morphology, sinter quality, and process consistency.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting with R&D Innovation, Application Qualification, and metrology teams, while supporting customer trials and developing application documentation.

Requirements

  • MS degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or BS degree with 5+ years of relevant technical experience in electronics manufacturing, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of printing, dispensing, sintering, or plating equipment.
  • Ability to design experiments, interpret results, identify cause-and-effect relationships, and solve technical problems with increasing independence.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting project summaries and contributing to technical reports for internal and customer audiences.
  • Commitment to personal and team safety.

Nice to have

  • Experience with vacuum-assisted printing or PCB sinter press processes.
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiments methods.
