Geotechnical Engineer 2

Location: Hybrid in Pomona, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. Up to 60% travel across the SCE service territory.

Salary: $101,900–$152,800 per year

What you will do

• Lead or support geotechnical engineering activities for transmission, substation, and related civil infrastructure projects.
• Plan and perform field investigations, testing, data analysis, engineering evaluations, and technical reporting.
• Evaluate soil, rock, and groundwater conditions and develop recommendations for foundations, retaining walls, and other infrastructure.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineering disciplines, environmental teams, stakeholders, consultants, and local agencies.
• Review designs and geotechnical reports, manage consultant scope and quality, and support permits and construction activities.
• Travel to project sites and perform outdoor field work, including walking on uneven terrain and handling equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematical field.
• At least two years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to work outdoors, travel extensively, drive on rugged transmission access roads, and perform field inspections.
• California residence is generally required, and the role requires hybrid attendance at an SCE facility.
• Successful candidates must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment or background investigation for the NERC/CIP-impacting position.

Nice to have

• Degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or a related discipline.
• Geotechnical engineering, utility, geotechnical construction observation, or inspection experience.
• Experience with ASTM geotechnical standards and soils laboratory testing.
• E.I.T., G.I.T., California Civil PE, or PG license.
• Experience with engineering software, Microsoft Office, digital productivity tools, and AI-powered tools.
